SmartGrid.gov is a resource for information about the Smart Grid and government-sponsored Smart Grid projects. The information on SmartGrid.gov helps consumers and stakeholders understand the basics of a Smart Grid and the range of Smart Grid technologies, practices and benefits.
Title XIII of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 sets forth the policy of the U.S: “to support the modernization of the nation’s electricity transmission and distribution system to maintain a reliable and secure electricity infrastructure.” The Act further stipulates initiatives for government programs to undertake in smart grid investments, including coordinated research, development, demonstration, and information outreach efforts.
